Design Statement:
Medea (431 B.C.), written by Euripides and translated by Rex Warner, is an Ancient Greek Tragedy about the extreme acts of revenge Medea takes on her former husband, Jason to restore balance to her wounded heart. The idea of revenge led to an exploration of the Greek Goddess Nemesis. Nemesis is the Goddess of revenge, and the restorer of
balance. She is often depicted with large wings, a balance scale, olive branch and a sword. Crafting a set that demonstrates imbalance, impurity and shattered space will bring across the themes of pain and
suffering, and the poses the question, what lengths humanity will go to heal a broken heart?
Assignment Description:
Design a set for Medea using a visual metaphor as the driving force behind your design. You will need to provide a series of research images as you explore your visual metaphor for this story and a color model in 1/4” scale of your design.
