a little about me...

Hello, and welcome to my page!  My name is Valerie DeMeerleer (They/She). I graduated from the University of Idaho in December 2023 with a B.F.A in Theater Art and Technology with an emphasis in Costume Design and a minor in Art.

 

I enjoy exploring the beautiful complexities of nature and art, and love finding ways to incorporate unique elements of color, abstraction, natural elements and everyday wonders into my work. I am committed to ethical and sustainable design, and am interested in how costume designers within the industry can evolve to a greater commitment towards sustainability and ethical design practices.

In my free time, I spend the day crafting, immersing myself in the wonders of a good story, dusting off my plants and sitting in the warm sunlight with my cat, Kiki.

I work primarily in costuming, finding the way of the needle to be the one I love the most. However, my creative nature has lead me to explore avenues in photography, scenic design and other artistic endeavors. You can find examples of all types of my creative projects under the Portfolio tab.
