Inspired by the works and themes of the expressionist period, Masks Behind Glass makes similar comments to German Expressionism about the inner feelings of alienation and anxiety in a world marked with collective trauma. The piece uses abstraction of the human form and depth, and is meant to place the viewer in a claustrophobic environment to create unease.
